Engineers trained in this master's degree will be able to access technical and managerial positions in companies related to mining exploitation and energy resources, as well as other roles linked to the research and evaluation of mineral deposits, underground works, drilling, mining installations and their maintenance, and environmental impact studies. They will also be capable of directing extraction, transport, and storage projects for resources, applying mineralurgical and metallurgical technologies. The main career opportunities are found in the mining sector, civil engineering, and broader industries where they can conduct studies on environmental impact, environmental consultancy, occupational safety, organization, and quality control, among others.

Generic competences describe what a graduate is capable of knowing or doing upon completing the learning process, regardless of the specific degree. The generic competences established at the UPC are entrepreneurship and innovation, sustainability and social commitment, knowledge of a third language (preferably English), teamwork, and the effective use of information resources.

- Explore, investigate, model, and evaluate deposits of geological resources.
- Plan, design, inspect, and manage the exploitation of deposits and other geological resources.
- Plan and manage energy resources, including their generation, transport, distribution, and utilization.
- Conduct studies on land use planning and underground spaces.
- Plan, design, and manage mineral resource processing facilities, as well as metallurgical and steel plants, and construction materials industries.
- Plan, conduct studies on, and design groundwater catchments, as well as their management, exploration, investigation, and exploitation, including mineral and thermal waters.
- Design and execute transport, distribution, and storage systems for solids, liquids, and gases.
- Assess and manage projects, plants, or facilities from an environmental perspective.
- Design and execute water treatments and waste management (urban, industrial, or hazardous waste).
- Design and execute tunnels, works, and underground spaces.
- Design, manage, and direct the manufacture, transport, storage, handling, and use of explosives and pyrotechnics.
