Rosa Maria Miró-Roig will receive the 4th Rosa Argelaguet i Isanta Award

PhD in Mathematics and expert in Agebraic Geometry and Commutative Algebra, the jury highlights her teaching career and her research activity. The award ceremony will take place on Friday 23 February at the University Campus Library

Rosa M. Miró-Roig (Manresa, 1960) will receive the fourth Rosa Argelaguet i Isanta Prize, promoted by Manresa City Council, through the Council of Knowledge, by the city universities UPC Manresa and UManresa-FUB, and the Campus Library (BCUM), as part of the celebration in Manresa of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

The award was created in 2020 with the aim of recognizing, promoting and raising awareness of the role of women who have actively contributed to any teaching, research or dissemination activity in the field of science, as well as for to maintain the legacy of Dr. Rosa Argelaguet i Isanta, who was a professor and director of UPC Manresa until her unfortunate death, and was always involved in the goal of awakening female scientific vocations.

Miró-Roig graduated in Mathematics in 1982 at the University of Barcelona and, three years later, in 1985, obtained his doctorate at the same university. She was a professor at the University of Zaragoza (1990-1992), visiting professor at MSRI (USA), Fields Institute (Canada), Henri Poincaré Institute (France), Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut Oberwolfach (Germany), Mittag-Leffler Institute (Sweden), VIASM (Vietnam), etc. She is currently professor of Mathematics at the UB.

During his academic career he has combined teaching and research in Algebraic Geometry and Commutative Algebra. He has published more than 200 research articles in prestigious journals such as Advances in Mathematics, Transactions of the American Mathematical Society, Mathematische Annalen, Journal für die reine und angewandte Mathematik, Compositio Mathematica and Memoirs of the AMS ; and has collaborated with researchers around the world.   

He has led and continues to lead research projects and national and international networks. She has supervised 12 PhD students and mentored many postdoctoral students. Member of the management committee of EWM ( European women in Mathematics , 1992-2010) and since 2021 has led the international network WICA ( Women in Commutative Algebra ).

She has been editor-in-chief of Collectanea Mathematica (2005-2021) and is associate editor of Beiträge zur Algebra und Geometrie, Journal of Commutative Algebra , Mathematics, and Vietnam Journal of Mathematics.    

She has also been an assessor for the agencies: CNEAI, ANECA, AGAUR, AVAP, DEVA (Spain), NSF, NSA (USA), FCT (Portugal), US-Israel Science Foundation (Israel), etc.

In 2007, she won the Ferran Sunyer i Balaguer award, granted by the Institut d'Estudis Catalans (IEC), and this year she has been nominated Distinguished Speaker 2023 by the  European Mathematical Society  (EMS).
